T   Freshman English is a year long class that encompasses reading, writing and speaking skills to
analyze literature and writing.  As a class, we will study the elements of fiction through short stories, issues in society with To Kill a Mockingbird, the epic hero in The Odyssey, poetic imagery and forms with Romeo and Juliet, research and text structures with various pieces of non-fiction literature, and all skills are utilized throughout the literature circle unit.  Individually, each quarter students will produce a writing portfolio that includes at least three writing pieces that studens have worked on in the writing process.  Also, students will read an independent book each quarter and complete a project depicting the major parts of the book.
